Description

JOB SUMMARY

Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains mold department/machine shop/ and regrind area equipment, designs and fabricates items as needed to improve manufacturing processes.  Maintains voucher system to track equipment repairs costs.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
1.  Maintenance: Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning equipment /systems.
 
 Representative duties include:
  • Must be able to fluently operate presses, robots and auxiliary equipment to diagnose malfunctions, and to verify repairs.
  • Troubleshoots and locates the source of the problem by observing the operation of the equipment.
  • Brainstorms with other maintenance personnel, and outside technical support as needed.
  • Restores damaged or malfunctioning equipment to operation by repairing, replacing and or adjusting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Performs plumbing and carpentry work as needed.
  • Controls down time by scheduling repairs with the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Maintains good communications with Maintenance Supervisor, and Team Foreman.
  • Completes MTR’s by describing the problem, solution, parts consumed, and repair time.
  • Inputs information from all Mold Department MTR’s into the AS-400.
  • Maintains ongoing list of projects with timeline to be addressed and completed.
  • Reviews daily MTR’s, if any, and repairs equipment accordingly.
  • Assists other maintenance personnel as needed, such as Mold Electrical Technician.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Ensures the work is completed with technical excellence, and in an efficient and cost-effective fashion.
 
  • 2.   Preventative Maintenance:  Responsible for the molding department, machine shop, and regrind area preventative maintenance program.
     
    Representative duties include:
  • Performs PM’s as required, follows a disciplined approach to scheduling allowing for the flexibility needed to maintain our production requirements.
  • Communicates preventative maintenance schedule with Maintenance Supervisor and the Team Foreman.
  • Documents preventative maintenance checks and findings in the PMR system.
  • Ensures the work is completed with technical excellence, and in an efficient and cost-effective fashion. 
 
 
3.  Fabrication:  Enhance equipment performance by designing, developing and installing modifications.
 
Representative duties include:
  • Maintains ongoing list of projects with timeline goals and objectives to be addressed and completed.
  • Designs and Fabricates components and assemblies as required using machine and hand tools.
  • Assembles / Fabricates components from supplied instructions or drawings / blueprints.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Operates machine shop equipment as needed to fabricate equipment, components, and parts.Equipment such as welders, mills, drill press, lathe, saws ect…
  • Documents all work on the proper forms.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Ensures the work is completed with technical excellence, and in an efficient and cost-effective fashion.
     
    To be measured by:
  • Improved productivity associated with designing, developing and installing modifications.
  • The timely completion of projects.
  • The cost effective manner in which projects are completed.
  • Care and safekeeping of company equipment and tools.
  • Communications with Maintenance Supervisor on items that impact productivity and efficiency.
     
      4.  Tooling:
     
      Representative duties include:
  • Assists Mold Technicians when needed and/or when time permits.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on injection and blow molds.
  • Checks molds for water and air leaks.
  • Powers-up the hot runner manifolds to check proper cavity heating and zone identification.
  • Tears down and cleans injection and blow molds to prep them for repairs needed.

  5.  Safety Housekeeping:  Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy work environment.  Ensures maintenance operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all department personnel.
 
Representative duties include:
  • Follows all policies, safety regulations, establishing good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensures that all equipment utilized in the plant is free of recognized hazards. 
  • Operates all equipment in accordance with manufacture’s recommendations.
  • Ensures worksite safety and cleanup and adherence to safety codes.
  • Assures tools and other equipment are stored properly.
  • Maintains high level of communication with Maintenance Supervisor and other appropriate personnel.  Advises and cautions TeamMates about potential problems and dangers.
  • Implements changes that will reduce safety hazards.
  • Makes housekeeping a day-to-day practice, follows the guidelines for “Manufacturers of Food Packaging” (ASI).

  6.  Other: 
 
  Representative duties include:
  • Organizes monitors and maintains, repair parts inventory, informs the Maintenance Supervisor of the need to order parts.
  • Responsible for the implementation of good ideas that require fabrication or modifications to the equipment.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Wears the proper safety apparel for the above listed activities, including safety glasses, face shield, steel-toe shoes and proper hearing protection when required.
  • Must be available to work overtime in emergency and special situations at the request of management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision.  Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned and assists others as needed.
  • Takes ownership of or actively participates in other projects and key initiatives as assigned or requested.
  • Operates machinery that aids in the implementation of the work.  Such equipment includes, but is not limited to scissor lifts, articulating booms, vertical man lifts, forklifts, and hydraulic benders.

QUALIFICATIONS

·High school diploma or equivalent 

·Machine training or experience preferred

·One to three years Mold Department experience preferred

·Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical, plumbing, carpentry, blue prints (all phases of construction) and troubleshooting required

·Knowledge of hand and power tools required

·Ability to understand written and verbal instructions 

·Ability to handle multiple tasks with little supervision 

·Good color discrimination, manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination 

·Must be certified to operate Whirley forklifts

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Prolonged walking and standing on hard surfaces.  Bending, crawling, crouching, squatting to lift or lower work loads.  Lifting of up to 45 lbs.   Climbing of stairs and ladders. Lifting and pulling of equipment. Must wear steel-toed shoes.
