JOB TITLE: CNC Machinist Apprentice

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

Learn and develop trade skills. Participate in setting up a manual and/or CNC machines to support the company objectives and strategies and meet or exceed internal and regulatory Quality Standards. As an employee-in-training, apprentices exhibit enthusiasm to learn and an interest in the job skills.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Apprenticeship Responsible over a 2-to-4-year period to gain extensive knowledge in manual machining, CNC machining, precision measuring, to a point they can manage their own assigned machining jobs.

  • Complete a wide variety of on-the-job training to develop skills in all areas. Listen carefully, confirm your understanding of what you’re being requested to do, and take notes as needed.

Manual Machining – learn the different set ups and tooling to run a manual machine. Learn the tooling for the machines and the coatings that are on the cutter so you can understand what tools are for what job when doing setups.

CNC Machinist – Responsible for collaborating with Machine Shop Manager and Engineering staff to provide machined components to support Manufacturing and Quality. Duties may include:

  • Completes training on setting up and operating manual lathes, band saws, milling machines, bend sanders, drill press, and to construct and or repair metal and / or plastic.

GENERAL CONDUCT:

  • Maintains respectful working relationship with TeamMates, Managers, Shift Supervisors, Team Leaders to promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Committed to Continuous Improvement to develop new methods to eliminate waste, improve productivity and reduce customer complaints.
  • Maintains excellent attendance as defined in the Company’s Attendance Policy.
  • Supports, enforces and complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety and quality.
  • Submits Good Ideas/ Kaizens to improve Safety, Quality and procedural operations that will benefit the Company.
  • Actively participates in meetings and discussions by providing suggestions for improvement, problem solving and offering feedback.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Willingness to work in a collaborative workplace and like to contribute ideas to improve operations.
  • Be able to work under time pressure and prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Be able to maintain a positive and cooperative attitude daily and under deadlines.
  • Must possess above average language and math skills, and reasoning abilities.
  • Have a strong desire to learn technical manufacturing skills.
  • Enjoy new, hands-on challenges.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Desired knowledge basic machining and / or electrical knowledge and skills and able to read blueprints.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May be required to engage in frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
