Special Notes:

  • The alternative work schedule is for 8 hour shifts Monday through Friday, working with the company to determine your day off, and 8 hours (7am-3pm) on Saturday.
    • You could use the day off during the week for hunting, fishing, or saving a day on childcare costs!
  • This position receives a $1.00/hour weekend premium. The premium applies to all your hours, not just the weekend.

JOB TITLE: Printer Apprentice
DEPARTMENT: Assembly
REPORTS TO: Decoration Team Leader

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

JOB SUMMARY
Operate, set up, and clean multiple UV Dry-Offset printing machines.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Production:

  • Under direction of the Decoration Team Leader, begins training sequence to gain competency on offset printing, both line and blend art.
  • Is familiar with all decoration imprint standards and printing terminology for operations he/she performs. Stay s current with all company printing procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensures all order details are being followed by comparing the printing plates, ink, components, and approved sample (or color proof) to those called for on the production work order. Reports errors or conflicting information to the Decoration Team Leader.
  • Maintains acceptable run efficiency by meeting expectations set by Decoration Team Leader during the training period.
  • Keeps downtime to a minimum by completing set up and fountain cleaning process.
  • Ensures that proper methods of data entry are followed to ensure all time, WIP, and scrap are properly accounted for, and inventory accuracy is maintained.
  • Able to trouble-shoot common problems on all decorating equipment.
  • Strives to account for 100% of all parts used. Maintains a reasonable rate for WIP scrap. Seeks advice of Decoration Team Leader and/or Assembly Team Leader when downtime is needed, and workers need to be re-assigned.
  • Completes required data entry as each job is completed.
  • Learns to identify problems, take steps to eliminate them (either by correcting the problem, suggesting ideas for improvement) or working with the Decoration Team Leader / Production Maintenance to resolve them.
  • Maybe called upon to perform Assembler I duties as workload dictates.
Quality:
  • Learns quality standards for acceptable decorated parts through instruction from Quality Department and on-the-job observations for imperfections in parts (i.e., oil marks, color, flashing, short-shots, scuffs) and how to properly report these problems.
  • Learns to perform all quality tests to be conducted at the time of set up (as defined by standard work instructions and company procedures) and how to spot check throughout product run to find smears, misalignments, dirt, and other common problems.
  • Strives for zero parts scrapped due to print=related reasons by retrieving all print scrap prior to downstream operations.
  • Pulls all necessary samples and places them in their designated location. Places reject in proper containers, labels them, and properly accounts for them.
  • Responsible for verifying that all necessary additives are in ink, as required. Is aware of ink substitutions and makes sure they are followed.
Safety:
  • Responsible for safe operation of equipment. Reports any unsafe, or potentially unsafe conditions with equipment and reports them immediately to Decoration Team Leader or Decoration & Assembly Team Leader.
  • Maintains clean and safe work area. Learns to clean and perform minor maintenance on machine.
  • Wears proper personal protective equipment when cleaning and setting up equipment. Empties hazardous waste containers as needed. Follow proper procedures when filing secondary alcohol containers.

  • Maintains respectful working relationship with TeamMates, Decoration and Assembly Team Leaders, Decoration Team Leaders, Production Assistants to promote teamwork and a positive work environment.

  • Maintains excellent attendance as defined in the company’s Attendance Policy.
  • Seeks other tasks during downtime and printing machine changeovers, i.e., assisting co-workers when assigned with their duties if they are behind, cleaning machines and work area.
  • Supports, enforces, and complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety and quality.
  • Submits new ideas to improve safety, quality and procedural operations that will benefit the company.
  • Actively participates in departmental meetings by providing suggestions for improvement, problem solving and offering feedback.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to understand machine operations.
  • Ability to work independently and make quick decisions.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability / mechanical aptitude.
  • Good manual dexterity and color discrimination.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
  • Prolonged repetitive motion of wrists / hands.
  • Frequent lifting up to 45 pounds.
  • Frequent pulling, pushing, and lifting.
